This is a tea that we prepare a lot in our household since it helps prevent and easing the symptoms of the flu, soothes sore throats, clears your blocked nose and warms up your body.
My husband prepares it a lot and I like the flavour and the fact that it helps me out if I start getting the coldish feeling.
When you go shopping for your fresh ginger, try to buy the skinny one (not the thick one if you can). It has a sharper taste and I’ve only been able to find this type of ginger at Aldi.

My kids, however, disagree with me. Strong flavours are not their thing and trying to get them to drink this when they have a cold is a battle. But we’ll get there as they get older.
This is one of our very own winter traditions: Ginger tea to strengthen your body.
So please, enjoy this recipe that comes all the way from my kitchen to you.

Fresh Ginger & Lemon Tea
Ingredients
- Shredded Ginger
- Half a Lemon juice
- Manuka Honey (or the honey of your choice) to taste
Directions
-
- If you have not done so, shred the ginger of your choice (skin included) on the thick side of your shredder.
- Fill a small pot with water, add the ginger to it and bring to the boil.
- Then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 mins. Remember that, the longest you let it simmer, the stronger it will be.
- Once ready, strain the tea on to a cup.
- Add the lemon juice and the honey (if using).
- Sit down and watch the magic happen.
- Enjoy!
