We all know Burgers are an American thing, but who doesn’t like a good burger at a barbeque, picnic, birthday or any summer time party or event?
It is true that in Spain we like our churrasco and chorizos criollos but, not everybody eats or likes meat. So here is where a good, healthy and nutritious option comes in handy. A beloved vegan burger that is good to everyone!

Ok, my mum was definitely not vegan, or vegetarian, for that matter. We ate a lot of meat and fish and the burgers that she used to make (Spanish way which is the patty on a plate with chips and salad) were a mix of beef and pork.
But we have come to a point where we wanted less meat or no meat at all, and I finally have settled on this recipe as one of the best I have ever tried and that I prefer to any store bought ones. Mainly because 1) doesn’t give me tummy ache after eating it 2) I know what is in it and I like it. I even cook them on the barbeque on a grill. Delicious! And so quick to make.
So please, enjoy this recipe that comes all the way from my kitchen to you.

Vegan Burger
Ingredients
- 1 can Black Beans, uncooked and blitzed
- 1/2 Onion, cooked and blitzed
- 4-5 Sliced Mushrooms, cooked and blitzed
- 1/4 cup Oats, blitzed
- 1/4 cup Ketchup
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Spanish Sweet Paprika
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Onion Powder
- Sliced Cheese (optional)
- Water
Directions
-
- Add the blitzed ingredients (black beans, onions, mushrooms, oats) in to a bowl and mix.
- Then add all the spices (garlic and onion powder, paprika and salt) to the ingredients and mix very well.
- Next, add the ketchup and mix well again.
- Make and shape your patty evenly (you can weight each patty to make sure they are the same).
- Heat some oil in a non-stick pan and start frying your patties.
- Turn carefully after a few minutes and brown the other side.
- Add some cheese on top of the patties, add a little water and cover with a lid. This will make the cheese to melt.
- Once melted, remove from the pan and add to the burger buns.
- I usually toast the bread buns on a pan, then spread a little mayo on the bottom bun and add the burger on top. Then add ketchup.
- You can add lettuce, tomato and onions or gherkins if you wish.
- Serve hot with chips and enjoy!
